Praise Night

I looked over the list and I don't know many of the songs on the list. Is it just me?

I'm not worried about the musicians learning the song; I trust that each one has the conscientiousness to practice well for the songs. But if most of the songs are new to the people that come for the first time that night, they'll be focusing on learning the new songs instead of Praising God. (We're leading them to praise God, not to show off how many songs we know, right?)

  1. I don't know many of the songs either and I understand what you're saying, but it shouldn't be ONLY us singing on key or to the correct tune. We should also be meditating on the words of the songs. So I think it's ohkay. Plus most of the people at the meeting knew these songs.

  2. Yes, some of the songs are not as well-known, but I assure you, the people at the meeting really looked deep within the songs for the meaning of them. What they were trying to find in each song is as aspect of God's love whether it is Jesus dying at the cross for us or God never giving up on us. For that reason, I disagree that we should sing all very well-known songs because I've noticed when people are familiar with things, it begins to fall into routine. At least for me, I might sing the songs, but forget to look to deeper into the meaning of the song since I've seen it so many times. Even if we fail to sing the a particular song, that will give us the time to contemplate on the meaning of the lyrics. Just to clarify, the worship team did not pick these songs to show off how many songs they know, but after hours of consideration they narrowed a huge list of songs into these few (which is not the final list).
I think a good half should be pretty well known since they are from hillsong and starfield :)

  3. Lynn, I think what I was trying to get at was that for SOME people not embarrassing themselves by singing the wrong notes sometimes distracts them from praising God. And I am not saying that that singing is our only focus. I believe that that is an important part of Praising God. (And you probably do.) I think what you said about the meditation is right though. So you have your points there

Hannah, I guess we're different, because for me, I sometimes get caught up in singing the right notes. And I know some others who fall into the same trap. I'm not saying this is the same for all people. That's a fault of mine that I don't want others to get trapped in.
I'm feeling a bit misunderstood when you say you disagree that "we should sing all very well-known songs" because that's not what I said or implied.

Maybe it's because I missed out on a lot by not going to the meeting. I'm glad you told me how much time they spent on making Praise night for God.
